Today's civil twilight brings attention to harassment at work when an employee goes through cancer. It seems unthinkable that employees who work during or after cancer treatment are harassed at work. Statistics and the media focus on sexual harassment or bullying at work, but little is said regarding cancer. Cancer websites will talk about numerous reasons people behave badly when someone becomes ill, ways to navigate the workplace and going back to work after a long fight to survive the disease. The ADA and other employment laws are designed to protect individuals; however, the issue arises when the harassers manipulate to make it seems as though it is job performance and overlook co-workers who feed into a hostile environment. How many have had work taken away without explanation after surgery or other cancer treatments?
