Most large corporations offer an annual ethics course all employees must take. The idea seems to mitigate and prevent large scale corruption like Arthur Anderson and Enron. The company is doing preventative measures, but in reality, how does the typical one-hour annual class help prevent fraud and deception among the ranks? A manager for a large scale manufacturer had a great two year run of gross misuse of the company credit card, verbal abuse of staff, and behaving like a sexual piranha before the walk of shame with security guards. Some are masters of deceit even with high turnover rates, shifting blame, toxic word vomit about staff, and selfish lust for a few extra dollars. The affairs and faux guise of the servent leader take much longer to ferret out. There will always be horrible leaders, habitual liars, good leaders, fair leaders, and exceptional leaders. But employees do have a choice in leadership. It's not being a whistleblower, it is the simple expectation and professional demand that leaders step up. Expect your leader to be trustworthy and honest. Eventually, no matter how many years have passed, leaders will receive what was sown-good or bad.
